How to test time delay relays?
Burden test
Adjust timers with high delays, eg 2 minutes.
Power up the relay with 125V and measure the DC current.
Note the current before the timer runs.
Relay after 2 minutes. Note the current after the operation.
Calculated relay power (W) 125v x measured current.
How to Test Furnace Delay Relays?
A time delay relay (TDR) specifies the amount of time that voltage is allowed to flow through the system before opening or closing a circuit. This delay allows the blower motor to continue running after the thermostat shuts down the compressor.
How to test a timer relay with a multimeter?
After the input voltage is applied, the time delay relay is ready to accept triggering. When the trigger is applied, the time delay (t1) begins. At the end of the time delay (t1), the output is energized. After the trigger is removed, the output contacts remain energized for the delay time (t2).
How do time delay relays work?
Delay relays are built into these four basic contact operating modes:
Normally open, timed close.
Always open, open regularly.
Normally closed, timed open.
Normally closed, timed closed.
What are the four 4 modes of the delay relay?
They work by controlling the speed of the air in the system. A valve at the end of the chamber prevents air from leaving the timer too quickly, allowing time precision to be set. A pneumatic timer allows the controller to indicate how much time will elapse before the piston opens the chamber.

How does the blower delay relay work?
By preventing your device from turning on and off frequently (short cycles), time delay relays prevent premature wear. The time delay relay is also the perfect accessory for families with kids who love to play with the thermostat.
How to use a multimeter to judge whether the relay is bad?
Take a multimeter and set it to ohms. Touch the leads on the solenoid pins and measure the resistance. Anywhere from 50-120 ohms will do. Out of range or open circuit means bad solenoid winding and time for a new relay

How to check if the relay is good?
You should hear a click if you connect the two terminals together. If it clicks, the coil is good and your relay is working. If it doesn't click, your relay is broken.
