Q: What is a temperature controller and how does it work?
A : A temperature controller is a device used to control the temperature. It first measures the temperature (the process variable) and then compares it to the desired value (the setpoint). The difference between these values is called Deviation. The temperature controller uses this error to decide how much heating or cooling is required to bring the process temperature back to the desired value. Once this calculation is complete, the controller will generate an output signal that affects the desired change. This output signal is called (manipulated value) and is usually connected to a heater, control valve, fan, or some other "final control element" that actually injects or removes heat from the process.
The temperature controller constitutes one of the four parts of the temperature control system. To help visualize this, we'll consider an oven. The four parts are:

3. Thermometer (or thermocouple)
4. Controller
The job of the temperature controller is to measure the temperature on the thermocouple, compare it to the set point, and calculate the amount of time the heater should stay on to maintain a constant temperature.
Many factors can change how long the heater needs to be on to maintain process temperature. For example, the size of the heater, the size of the oven, the amount of insulation around the oven, and the ambient temperature can all change how quickly the oven heats or cools. Other factors such as air circulation in the oven, humidity of the air.
At the end of the day, the temperature controller replaces the function of a person whose job is described as follows:-
